teo_audio, I disagree with your mathematics, I think we fight for more than a few percentage points. $0.25 cable and even $500 cable are very far apart. |
To add to the above. - everyone needs "psychological herd" - not everyone wants to feel safe |
Though I have transistor equipment, the system's sound is on a warmer side but not too warm. I think, I should get Furutech Gold even if either gold or rhodium would probably do. |
Elizabeth, thank you for the information, appreciate it. I live in an apartment complex and the maintenance guy is really good and will install it for me any week. I could do it myself but better not. Some like Furutech cables a lot, I heard. |
Yeah, I remember the thread about Furutech and Synergistic outlets, got me confused a little. Rhodium plated or gold plated, they were claimed to sound different. I just need one, so price difference is non-issue, though blue would look terrible. |
"Audiophiles' who can't hear well or/and perverse enough are not worth arguing with, it only amplifies whatever they are at. I had $1 receptacle replaced with new $7 duplex and yes, there was a very slight improvement in clarity and dynamics. I should get Furutech too, I guess. But which one ? |
Clean stable power is 50% of success. Doesn't exist any more unless you are very lucky. But we are talking about cables. There might be exceptions, of course, but I believe that audiophile best value 1 M pair interconnect cables should be within $1000-$2000 range, new, street prices. They might give you those 90% or more, though it is hard for me to quantify sound quality in percentage. However, I am a 'cable guy', I try to have the cabling at least one step ahead of active components. Makes little sense to me to have great active components and not being able to get 100% performance out of them. But as with any approach you don't want to overdo it either. |
Stage 3 Concepts is definitely worth considering, quite expensive. Ecole as well.

Peter, I personally don't like wearing watches and so I don't unless I am some distance from civilization. No, not Rolex, I got 28 years old never serviced Orient automatic that keeps decent accuracy. But I would get Rolex Explorer II if I could and needed it, or Submariner. Or Breitling Chronograph. Seiko must be kidding us - only 30 meters of waterproofness and glass case back. Military model ? But since they are very inexpensive I might just get it for fun and do some testing. Pride of ownership.. Interesting concept, I think. Same with audio equipment, including cables. |
Rolex are very accurate though not the most accurate there is, time to service it. It also has proven reliability and resistance to elements confirmed by those who wore them in faraway places. Rolex is in fact a performance choice. I think, the OP is now enlightened beyond his tolerance, but cable subject is complicated, fun too. |
Most agreed in another thread that tonearm cable is the most important cable in the entire system. With such equipment level you might want something really good. What do you call " mega dollars " ? For some it is $15k pair and for others it is $1500 pair. So I would start with tonearm cable and leave the rest as it is right now, then rewire everything. One brand approach is not always the best but it is the simplest and often a good one. I use Purist Audio Neptune and Tchernov Audio Reference interconnects. You can read my review here. They are not inexpensive but not outrageously expensive either. This doesn't mean it would be the best choice for you, but I think you should try a few brands. Kubala Sosna is another company that comes to mind. All three that I mentioned are used or used to be used by Lamm and many Lamm owners. This tells me something. |
