the Ryko releases were mastered to sound identicle the original analogue pressings. all subsequent releases have been quite different, if not always better.
JVC K2/ ELVIS COSTELLO CDS
I was wondering whether anyone has heard the Elvis Costello cds from Japan manufactured with the JVC K2 high definition coding, or is familiar with other cds made with this (part of the XRCD) process. To my ears, the Ryko releases from the mid 90s sound a little on the warm side, and the recent Rhino remasters somewhat bright/thin/lacking in depth. Of course, it matters whether the original master tapes were used as the source material for the Japanese releases, but I was thinking of buying one to try. Thanks very much for your replies!
