Just got the Focal Scala V2 at a great price

Hi folks

need some recommendations on the amps and preamps for these speakers.  I got them 2nd hand for a great price as I was not willing to spend £25k+ for the ‘upgraded’ Evo.  Too much money for a bit more which I don’t think is worth it.  Now my old amps will not cut the mustard here and I need to seriously get something new to do them justice.  I listen to a wide variety of genres mainly vynils from rock to blues to Pink Floyd, heavy metal, pop etc... I love the bass and it’s very important to me.  Bright sound doesn’t put me off.  Thanks for your input and help here

Hey everyone looking to purchase a pair of Focal scala V2s. There like new can anyone give me an idea of a good price point for low hour and very clean cabinets. Also I have the Parasound JC1s a pair obviously. Wanted to not go for another amp set up. Would every one agree that The JC1s can handle this task? Thank you guys. I am a music lover and not an Audiophile as of yet.. Were the Focal V2s new around the 33 to 35 k price point? Thank You for your assistance

I tried the new Scala out recently, might as well pipe in. Large room (~45m2), hi-res files used, orchestral music, some opera (to get the feel of screechy sopranos), can't remember cabling. I look for dynamics, reasonable phase integrity, low-high frequency reproduction—as far a the spkrs & the room & the recordings allow, of course.
The fun was during an audio show, so lots of partnering equipment to hand!

*IMO and given your budget, you are better off going used (or eschew the impulse to buy a pre)

Here are *some* unusually good results (i.e. there are obviously others)

1) I strongly urge you to reconsider Devialet: the case for separates pales before the excellent driving capability (& output-input impedance matching versatility) of a Devialet 400 for example!
2) Amazing: the Benchmark amp (called sthing like AHB etc), used in mono -i.e. buy two -- does an excellent choice! Worth checking out.
#)The YBA mentioned above is an excellent bet as well albeit, expensive (I listened to 2x 650 bridged mono).
3)Aries Cerat (lovely machines) mentioned above et alia tubed, either cost the earth or won't drive yr Scala; a pair of AR 600 monos for ex, drove them well, but the Devialet drove them slightly better.4) A medium powered hybrid from Ypsilon called Phaethon, gave exquisite results, but I was given the impression that this phaeton costs the earth! (For the record.)
5) Of course, many other brands can and will do the job adequately (Hegel and similarly trendy offerings), the above are some that did an unusually good job.
I would narrow it down to just two brands - YBA, and the incomparable and unique Aries Cerat.
Thanks for your input atekelidis. I have narrowed down the list quite substantially now, I am not a big fan of Naim as I heard them before on other speakers and didn’t like them..  Maybe I should revisit with the V2s worth a listen.
I just sold my system Scala V2 with Naim NAP 500DR,N272,555PS-DR and Naim Super Lumina DIN-XLR and speaker cables the only other brand I would consider is YBA
Nhoj4203 nice amps.  What sort of music you listen to? How is the base on them?  Did you buy them specifically for the speakers or you had them before?
I have the same speakers and love them. I use a Conrad Johnson ArtSA power amp and the Conrad Johnson ET5 preamp...sounds great!
@mzkmxcv thanks for letting me know about these mono blocks.  I found the dealer and I will get in touch with them to demo cheers for that
@headphonedreams devialet is great but I want separates on the system.  As for the ML the ones I liked were above £18k!

Thanks guys.  For the budget on amp I can go up to £7k for the preamp between 4-6k
You still didn’t state a budget.

Either way, Nord One NC500MB monoblocks for <£1400. Comes in black or silver.

For the preamp/DAC, not sure, the Parasound Halo P6 is great, comes in black or silver.

Don’t let anyone tell you that you need £10,000 worth of gear to make those speakers shine.
For a power amp that won't break your budget but will drive any speaker made try the Anthem P2 amp 325 WPC and it will drive speakers all the way down to 1 ohm with no problems.
I heard Focal speakers with Mark Levinson amps years ago and that worked great. Maybe their latest integrated will suite you.
For something French you can try Devialet.
I’ve been hearing a lot of good things about Hegel as well, but unfortunately I don’t see anyone near me in Tampa that has them for a Demo. The price seems better than most and supposedly they are built quite well for SS amps.
Thanks mmorison55.  The Mac dealer is not far from where I live.  I have auditioned a range of macs previously with a set Focal V1 and I wasn’t crazy about them, maybe it’s the way I am used to the sound - I like my music a bit more open and slightly on the bright side. In England macs cost double the price of what they cost in the US and not much gear available on the 2nd hand market. The list is massive moving forward but wanted to narrow the choices to few.  Heard that a tube pre amp would be great with this combo as they are bright with a Decent ss amp. I know the folks at Stone audio - will go there next week. Cheers!
If you want to support your British brethren, have a look here for some amp manufacturers.

The stuff I’ve seen from Chord, looks impressive, but the cost seems to match. Way out of my budget.

And if if you want to find a French amp maker to power your French speakers, check this site out for some ideas.  Or you can use this site to look for all amp manufacturers for that matter.

The Jadis tube amps look nice.

Being in in the US, I hope to someday have some Mcintosh gear. Some seem to bash them but from what I have seen and listened, I think you can’t  go wrong with Mac gear. Plus it holds its value better than just about any hi fi products I’ve seen. Searches on audiogon will confirm as much.

Congrats on the Focals, btw.

I am new to this hobby, but I speak with a little experience. I recently purchased the Focal Electra 1028BE and love them. The first amp I purchased to power the Focals was underpowered and the bass is the first place it showed up. I returned the amp and went back to the store (where I purchased the speakers) and bought the same rig (amp, streamer and preamp) they were using. IF that is not an option then I would suggest looking at NAIM amplifiers.

Congratulations on your new speaker purchase.  May you have a lifetime of listening pleasure.

It’s purely stereo Hifi and am based in the UK.  Didnt think a sub was in play with these speakers but I might be mistaken.  Any help here is more appreciated cheers
How far away to you listen? Budget and location? Would you ever want to add a subwoofer or do DSP?
