JC2 Bypass gain settings

I plan on trying the Jc2Bp in my system this week and wonder what I should set the gain to , From what I've heard when using a Parasound Jc5 with the Jc2bp is to set the  preamp gain to max and the amp to the 12 o'clock position and while that sound like no problem it is as it will not be enough for my Marantz 8805 to compensate as it only has +12 or -12 gain adjustment. What would be a good compromise or am I just overthinking here and should just set the Jc2bp to what works in my setup.

I don’t understand.  If the bypass in the JC2 works like every other one on the planet it bypasses the preamp’s volume control so the Marantz completely controls the volume.  For HT and using the bypass input the volume levels on the JC2 shouldn’t come into play at all unless I’m just missing something here.

Your correct,  however  it's when adjusting  the amplifier gain on my Jc5 to the 12 o'clock or halfway posting does the Marantz get affected as the gain and volume control on the Jc2 are bypassed when in bypass mode, this is where I'm  not clear on where the settings should be, this is all to get the volume control in the sweet spot  of  the 11 to 1 o'clock position as it's  supposed to have the least distortion and track the left and right channels the closest.

Well, leaving aside you can just try different gain levels and see what sounds best, yeah I’d say for an HT application you might be overthinking this a bit.
