Jazz for aficionados

Jazz for aficionados

I'm going to review records in my collection, and you'll be able to decide if they're worthy of your collection. These records are what I consider "must haves" for any jazz aficionado, and would be found in their collections. I wont review any record that's not on CD, nor will I review any record if the CD is markedly inferior. Fortunately, I only found 1 case where the CD was markedly inferior to the record.

Our first album is "Moanin" by Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers. We have Lee Morgan , trumpet; Benney Golson, tenor sax; Bobby Timmons, piano; Jymie merrit, bass; Art Blakey, drums.

The title tune "Moanin" is by Bobby Timmons, it conveys the emotion of the title like no other tune I've ever heard, even better than any words could ever convey. This music pictures a person whose down to his last nickel, and all he can do is "moan".

"Along Came Betty" is a tune by Benny Golson, it reminds me of a Betty I once knew. She was gorgeous with a jazzy personality, and she moved smooth and easy, just like this tune. Somebody find me a time machine! Maybe you knew a Betty.

While the rest of the music is just fine, those are my favorite tunes. Why don't you share your, "must have" jazz albums with us.

Enjoy the music.

Just discovered this thread everyone. The Buena visita social club album blew my mind. I actually will attempt to visit Cuba next year. When I heard the album. The guys play their instruments with so much emotion that I was amazed. The instruments and the players are one!
@frogman @jzzmusician  thanks will take a look at both.  Have either of you heard Duke Pearson "The Right Touch". It is a great album. Overlooked

@frogman were you ever able to find Edmar Castaneda on Cd I tried but could not on one of his albums.
If I was on an island The Right Touch would be one of my five albums that's how much I love it. It's a treasure. I knew when I suggested it that you guys would go crazy once you heard it. The list of the guys playing on it is flat out stellar. It's the treasure That no one talks about.
On los malos hombres these guys each get solos and try to outplay each other it's amazing
Cecile savant second album. Not the latest but the one before is the best female vocal full album I've heard in jazz in the last 5 years. Woman child is the name of the album!
Fellas, just asked about top 7 jazz/blues thread. Get your answers in.  I need to expand to more great jazz albums.
Ahmad Jamal "Saturday Morning"  album is a masterpiece.  Everyone go take a listen.   It's been out a couple of years.  He is a master.  70 years in music still has the piano keys smoking!
Tsuyoshi Yamamoto "midnight sugar" jazz piano.   Tell me what you think everyone.
Ok fellas. 2 albums

1. Roy Hargrove "Crisol"

2. Miguel zenon " alma aldenteo The Puerto Rican songbook"

tell me me what you think?
Well fellas you are right.  One of my dealers recently died and had the greatest system I ever heard but in this world with the streaming and Bluetooth stuff it's not the thing for some folks. His system was crazy expensive.  They don't listen the way we listen. He had a audio bucket list. Most people think we are nutty.
