On my player last year I was treating the cd's by first sanding the the edges and then blackening the edge with a black marker. Even though I was careful to remove all dust before playing it is probable that some remained embedded in the plastic rim along with tiny aluminum oxide particles remaining stuck in the plastic whereupon when spinning they were flung about in the spinning gallery and scratched the laser. I needed a quick replacement but did not want to wait on sending mechanism back to China and then waiting for it to come back home again. Jay said I could pay for a new mechanism while mailing the defective unit back to China. Upon receipt of payment they sent a new unit. When they received the defective unit they repayed me for the original payment.

Geez, I just realized that my original CDT2 Mk2 had the upgraded soundboard in it which was being called "Mk3." This is a replacement I did myself as soon as I heard of the new sound board which was easy to install. That was an improvement. This was 3 years ago, so can't quite remember how good the upgrade was, but it seemed worth it at the time. |
