Janos Starker passed away 28 April

One of the 20th century's best cellists passed away on 28 April. The cello is my favorite acoustical instrument, it can be so expressive, and Mr. Starker was a wonder with it. For more details see the NY Times article:

Very strange thing happened to me--I sat down to listen to one of the Bach Cello Suites the other night and found his performance so compelling that I stayed up late into the evening and listened to all six straight through. Incredibly moving performances. I woke up the next day (a little tired) and opened up the NYT to see his picture along with the death announcement. Very strange indeed.
The cello is one of my favorite instruments. Starker was one of the greatest cellists ever. There are a number of very interesting interviews and performances featuring him on Youtube. Highly recommended.
I too am sad to hear of his death. I only got to know him after my ex wife told me to buy the Bach suites remaster. I bought as ma ny other Starker Lps as I could after that. A great musician but you don't need me to tell you that.
