Orchestra Baobab,The Ethiopiques are two contenders.The fantastic CD comp of golden age Afro pop "The music In My Head" which has several cuts of Etoille Dakar featuring the young Youssou N'Dour.Also a contemporary of Mittoo ,Ernest Ranglin a guitarist has several CDs "Below The Bass" is one.Another features an African Band.These are sort of Ska/African and could be what you are seeking.Ranglin is a fine musician well worth exploring.
