I've never had a prob with any SPDIF coax including "throwaway" RCA ICs I can't help but it sounds like Schiit gets the gold.
Issue with S/PDIF cable
Please educate me on S/PDIF cables. I recently encountered a USB card failure on my Schiit Yiggy. I purchased a Unison USB with install but I’m stuck in the repair Queue due to the pending move. So I grabbed a couple S/PDIF cables that were unused. The first was a Better Cables Silver Serpent that worked well but was overly bright. The second cable was a 1 meter that is American made and was 3 times the cost of the Silver Serpent . I inserted this cable into my Innuos streamer and connected it to my Yiggy. When I played music the Yiggy had a fit and was clicking and sputtering. I tried the cable with my CD transport and encountered the same issue with a higher resolution CD. I dropped the max resolution on the Innuos from 196 to 94 and the system played smoothly. I contacted the cable manufacturer and they offered me a new S/ PDIF at half off the $480 price with a generous return policy. Their explanation was that’s an older design cable and “in some systems this happens “. I also noticed that the Better Cables was of coaxial construction and this cable has 3 strands of wire inside the usual flex jacket that most manufacturers use. I’m omitting the brand of the cable because I’m not interested in blasting the company as I much like their interconnects and speaker cables. I’m just curious about S/PDIF’s and this issue data flow. Thanks for any input, Mike B
