is there a consensus on too short speaker cables?

I normally use 6 ft cables - which are in abundance used. 8 ft seems to be more common. I'm going to get new cables and intend to go with 5 foot length - since this is as long as I need. My only reservation is given the fact that selling them is inevitable next time I upgrade - would 5 ft be less saleable than 6 ft? Is this nit-picking?

thanks for the comments so far. I guess I knew better than to expect a consensus here, but I was looking for a substantial minority.

I personally subscribe to Michaelwolff's school of thought. With my current configuration, 6ft simply leaves more slack than I like, and 4 ft is a little to taught on the mid/tweet connection - so 5 ft seems right to me. I generally run my amps positioned right next to my speakers, so this length is just right for me. I'm just wondering if I'm alone.

thanks again . . .
So, what about active speakers? does that mean since the amps are hard wired, they won't get good bass? I've also seen active speakers w/ the amps externally... tho the cables are far from 8 feet. I dunno... doesn't sound right to me.
I agree . . . I think it's bogus. I'd have to hear the specific argument supported with more info.
