Is it my amp or pre-amp ?

My basement system (my pieces/parts system) consists of- Aragon 8008 x 3 (amp)---Rotel 1066 preamp/processor- Phillips 880 CD player and a new Music Hall DAC.
Here is my problem : When I power up all my gear the amp makes a repeated clicking sound. If it plays music when it clicks it produces no sound. Its basically shutting down without losing power.
My CD player has variable outs...and a volume control. When I bypass the Rotel pre/pro and connect directly to the CD player I have no issues.
Is my issue with the Rotel pre/pro or is it an amp issue?
I can get another Rotel pre/pro for cheaper than a diagnosis/repair.

Any ideas/thoughts or opinions would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

The delay relay on Aragon 4004/8008 amps can intermittently fail. Have a service tech look at the delay circuit, and R&R the relay and clean the contacts.
So if you connect amp directly to CDP all good, add Pre/Pro to the mix & amp(?)starts clicking & stops producing sound?
It has to be the Preamp, which the CDP is acting as when direct coupled..Maybe an output stage going bad...
