Is DEQX a game changer?

Just read a bit and it sure sounds interesting. Does it sound like the best way to upgrade speakers?

Enjoy the demo Bif, lucky man. I just completed a 'dream system' in another post and included DEQX. I think it's a new essential; like high octane gas for a Ferrari. I hope it gives a great result in your system.
Measuring speakers outdoors is a big task. I hope they come up with a comparable way - in place.
I dunno Psag. To me the difference should be in the music heard. No understanding--just hearing. If it took me more than a few bars to hear the change interest would be losstttzzz.
Bifwynne and Unsound. I'm absolutely amazed the DEQX rep even considers bringing a piece of stereo gear to anyone's house. If this is their sales model it's very expensive. I would have expected brick & mortar dealers and online. Am I out of touch with present day audio sales?
Sounds like you are very lucky to be getting a very thorough demo.
Might be hard to remove once you hear it's magic?
Thanks Drewan.
Well Bif, can't say I'm even a little surprised based on all the favorable comments. I think you will now be the envy of many of us as you get to learn and dial in your new unit. Enjoy and please keep us in the loop. We'll all learn.
Very interesting to hear the DAC function sounds at least as good as the ARC Ref CD 8--impressive! And it seems the preamp function is excellent as well. Do we have another OPPO here? Great usefulness and great value?
Drewan, to eliminate that "slightly more artificial and brittle"
sound it the top end- I suggest experimenting with ac isolation and conditioning devices for your unit and source, and some high quality power cords. Good luck. I agree it's difficult to acknowledge our old(er) treasures have been surpassed in ways that surprise us. (I think improved power supply management is often one of the big factors.)
Thanks ALMARG for helping us stay on track. I hope your helpful attitude becomes contagious!Very reassuring.
I would like to see a STEREOPHILE review comparing measurements of say a Revel Salon 2 (multiple crossovers but not time aligned) versus the current best 'time aligned" speakers, both before and after DEQX. Along with comments on the sound of course.
Ozzy, I think your logic is sensible and will apply to many.
It costs (next to) nothing to 'tinker' with ideas for room treatments and most will accept the musical happiness they can obtain thereby (and I have experienced huge improvements that way); and of course we're all well aware of the potential for significant change due to the staggeringly quick evolution of digital and communication (transmission) technology. But, this conversation confirms the units do seem to offer previously unavailable, perhaps unimaginable, options to a serious music lover who wants more 'you are here' feeling. We live in exciting times don't we.
Thanks BIF. It's great to here some detail ;) and that the experts there are of real value. What were the areas of improvement?
Well, I've concluded those that whine about 3 hour setup time are knockers or whiners. If someone won't spend 3 hours to dial in something this fabulous (judging from owners comments) then in he (or she) better not call themselves an audiophile. I've spent that cleaning all contacts. Takes me that listening to Saturday afternoon at the Opera. It takes 3 hours to review information in some manuals. How about turntable setup? Anyone agree?
Comforting to have support. Drewan thanks for mentioning our record cleaning! Perhaps those raised on CD's expect "instant" satisfaction - and while I can understand that- even my CD's are enhanced by the time I take to clean and treat them with the combination The Absolute Sound and others praised as new essentials. I am very appreciative of the results my time investment has paid on my enjoyment of music. No question about it.
Fabulous Drewan. Many happy returns. Sounds like a big tech leap that truly is effective. Your comments indicate it has been a game changer for you-- and for who better than a live music listener? I look forward to when I'm able to invest in one.
Hi Al, I appreciate your comments re-"Neither of his subsequent responses made reference to that question. His many posts that I've seen at various forums are confidence inspiring, and I feel safe in assuming that if he was aware of any negatives about the new design he would have mentioned them."
My main take from this is you are a trustworthy person. However I can't concur. My business experience, although limited,as everyone's, drives me to uncertainty about it. When people have addressed an item I have found they are very open to confirm it, with pride in the improvement. Avoidance never gives me confidence-from anyone. I'm from Missouri(Newfoundland in Canada :-) Always a pleasure to review your pragmatic informative posts. Take care. Pete
Bombay(hope it's ok for short-otherwise I could use Walla?).
Appreciate your comments. I think we can never overlook that in todays world there's an unavoidable intense pressure on manufacturers to create "newer", faster and "cheaper". Which power supply is less expensive?
Al, the 30 day return privelege seems as good as one could hope for.Sure gives me confidence.
Bombaywalla, you and your comments are certainly respected.
I lack tech knowledge and so must re-read these last posts. However Drewan I believe a "most refined" power supply is the basic requirement of a great product. My experience has taught that as your basic equipment, pre & amp, become of exceptional quality it is noise that limits the ultimate refinement of the music and to my ear it's very noticeable; not as noise per se, but as limiting dynamics, nuance and particularly the spatial presentation of the orchestra.I know how even minute amounts of noise have a significant effect in my Spectral & MIT system,as I have experimented & invested in quality power conditioning & isolating products which allow the ability to "cascade" complementary products in a very revealing & informative way.My Spectral DMC20 pre has a 'highly touted' separate power supply (which I came to feel was the units weakest link as I thought that a robust power supply should 'perfectly' isolate the effects of ac noise). My system reveals how insidious any electrical(perhaps also magnetically generated) noise interferes with the systems ability to render the magic of great sound reproduction. The DEQX is "an added link in the chain" which can only add noise!(then consider cabling). I can't help it - the more this is discussed the more I feel the move to the switching power supply is "only" about saving money. Transportation costs are becoming a more significant aspect of cost all the time.
Thanks Al. I enjoy and appreciate your posts :) In 20's I took a degree in accounting. No math; just use of an adding machine. I enjoyed Philosophy and logic and appreciate yours. KUTGW. Cheers :) Pete
P.S. Al. Dad was a civil engineer--great guy, unbelievable memory. Gave me a wonderful start and although passed in the early 90's is with me near daily. My luck.
Would adding the DEQX dramatically enhance my older JBL 250Ti's which I've been storing for some time? I like the drive and dynamics of the 250Ti's.
