Is DEQX a game changer?

Just read a bit and it sure sounds interesting. Does it sound like the best way to upgrade speakers?

Have not heard and do not know how well executed (always the key), but I agree that the theory seems sound and the approach practical, so definitely something that would be worth hearing for me and I would go in optimistic about hearing some good things.

Digital processing of sound that comes out of a speaker compared to what is fed into it sounds like a very practical approach and one that should be practically addressable with modern technology and signal processing algorithms.

So it passes the initial BS test and worth further investigation for me.

There may be other similar solutions out there as well but don't know so I could not compare this to any other options that might exist.
I tried the a/b without DEQX/with DEQX online demo at the deqx site with a pair of decent headphones. Glad to say most of what I hear at home off my OHMs with CLS (Coherent Line Source) Walsh style drivers sound much more like the with DEQX samples, as I would expect. Also I can relate to how things degrade from there in some other cases I am familiar with to various degrees, though the "without" samples in the demo sounded pretty extreme.

No doubt the "with" DEQX samples are much easier to sort through than the "without" samples.
Al,

I will stay tuned. I'm very interested in your finding as I'm sure are many here.

Not to make more work for you, but I would be very interested to understand the effects of DEQX on various speakers of various designs, in a sense as a potential objective way to measure speaker distortion, perhaps on some relative scale.
Sounds like a good idea to use acoustical absorbing devices to reduce the magnitude of reflected sound that would reach the calibration microphone otherwise. Would seem to be a positive step towards reducing effects of room acoustics.
This is good stuff. Al, you are the right guy for this job! Could this be the holy grail of tweaks? On paper, to the extent I understand it so far, it (DSP done well and right) has teh potential. I can't wait to hear how it turns out.
Al,

Interesting findings so far.

Sounds like the good news is the unit is providing you the information needed to get it set up optimally as it should, and that you are well versed to interpret and use it.

I wonder what the general recommended apporach from teh vendor is? Is anechoic measurements the norm for geting things calibrated initially? Sounds like it. In which case, there may be no equally effective substitute for some kind of plan for accomplishing measurements outdoors as suggested. Or in some other kind of anechoic environment. How about a recording studio? Maybe there is something like taht nearby at a school or other professional facility that might be accessible. Of course, no way to avoid the pain of having to move heavy and delicate audio gear that way. So it might be a dilemma for which one practically just has to accept some kind of compromise.

I'm sure its going to work out well one way or another in due time.
Al,

Were you to decide to undertake the task I would gladly volunteer to help with the schlepping. PRoblem is I do not live very close. Maybe there are some other strong and trustworthy folks out there who live a bit closer that might be willing to lend a hand as well if it comes to that.
