AQ cables definitely have arrows for direction on the sleeving of the cable itself if a smooth covering like some of their older cables or in the case of newer stuff, like a pair of Coral XLR I have on the heatshrink by the connector itself. |
Wetfeet48. I had a pair of AQ GR8 speaker cables for years. Only sold them when I moved up to some Nordost cables. Very good cables from my memory. Never seen or heard of them from anybody else until now...lol. |
Howabout some Kaiju instead then Nonoise?
Better?
|
Which evil evil post would that be as I do not honestly see any.
Some differences of opinion sure but nothing much more than that.
It's freedom of speech and we are all adults here....I hope anyway.
|
Could not agree more Elizabeth.
I was your typical non believer, would not even entertain the idea, used whatever power cords and ic came with the equipment and speaker cable was basically car stereo speaker cable...lol.
Then I bought a CD player that came with an aftermarket set of ic, Audioquest I think, and I tried them out compared to el cheapo ones I normally used and that was it. All I can say is that ignorance was financial bliss....lol.
Stepped off the cable merry go round for now as I have more than good enough cables imho for now. But yes I saw the light on cables and fuses as well. But that is a story for other well worn threads. |
This thread has taken a nice turn from the usual cable threads with a LOT of very well written and thoughtful posts by numerous contributors without too much heckling and sniping. I still think I believe I know what I hear though.....lol.
Just one question....how in the world do you find the time and state of mind to put together such powerful and long posts. I tend to get a little lost after a couple of paragraphs when I am composing. Hope you have some darn good music in the background for stimulation! |
I suppose if you are spending $600K on a pair of Magico Ultimates, than what’s a mere $12K for cable. That is likely the most prudent way to look at it overall. Now just need save up $612k...... |
Nice to know on the cable company. Thanks for clarification Dave. |
Have yourself a blessed weekend too my friend. I sincerely intend to, listening to music with my middling expensive cable strewn system. Its all in the ears of the beholder, not in the mind...imho of course |
Yes the Cable Company is most definitely still in business. Excellent source for people who wish to open their minds and try some cables out.
|
So true! I much prefer "rock" trolls......
|
So much angst. Can't we all just get along? |
I am not sure just how much value there is the higher up the food chain you get on cables as have not explored that higher end...yet. However present progress suggests that the more cables I have swapped out the more I hear a difference. Not always for the better I admit. Maybe one day I will try a $5000 or even $10000 pair of ic or sc just to see..... |
Geoff Done deal Pm me and I will take one! |
GK Them old Sony discmans are pretty sweet units! Sort of jealous I hate to admit, if I could find a decent working one at fair price I would give one a spin...pun intended! Were the Panasonic ones as good as the Sonys I wonder?
|
And just to keep on topic... My $25 cdp is using ic that cost over 10x the price of the player. And yes I CAN tell a difference between using those and a pair that are circa $40 so not sure what that tells you overall but there you go. |
There is really only one person around here who makes posts for the sake of boosting their post count........
|
devilboy. have you checked the classifieds here of late? A LOT of lower priced stuff for sale as well as the high end and guess what? it sells. And have you tried to sell true high end gear of late? its a tough sell right now.
|
I am still using a Pioneer cd player circa 1986 that I paid the grand sum of $25 for and it sounds pretty darn good to me. I have some cables that cost many times that ....lol.
Maybe reverse expectation bias at play.
|
@devilboy I believe I did answer your question, sort of, maybe not in actual percentile numbers but how it is approached by myselfSo if you want percent lets say 10% critical analysis and the 90% listening which obviously includes some analysis but more for the art of pleasure.
|
Devilboy After any change to equipment or cabling I will spend the next few hours of listening being highly alert and critical of any changes in sq both good and bad and try to decide then which is the best direction to proceed. But after that I am not tearing around changing it all out again. Unless it was a large negative impact that I cannot take any longer! Its time for some serious music time after all that. And may stay that way for days and weeks. |
I make my own power cords and am very happy with the results. But I do have access to some pretty nice cable from work..... |
@elizabeth
I got the RS at 42k, yes a lot of cash but a whole lot of fun. And if I keep my lead foot out of it still get 28mpg.
GK.
Why cannot serve two masters or three or four? Same principles of research and application. Admittedly car upgrades do tend to be a little more universally reliable in outcome.
|
@elizabeth
On an earlier note.
I used to drive nothing but big v8 cars, Mustang, Camaro, Challenger etc. Then I discovered the ST. Had a downpipe, full exhaust and open filter and rolling road dyno tune, 277hp. Fun every mile! Then I was ruined..... Took it to local Ford dealer for 10k service and there it was... Focus RS in Mad Max Matte black staring me in the eye, saying go on I dare you! It went home with me that day, yes I am impulsive..... 2.3 liter, 335hp, awd, I have died and gone to heaven! |
Why do all these types of posts end up turning into huge ideological debates? Why just more solid perceived examples of the OP original premise?
Here are my experiences.
For years I was a huge non believer in spending money on cabling, used to use any old stuff I had lying around and 0.50cent a foot stuff if had to buy new.
Then as I started buying better equipment, I started to think well what if? Surely all these people cannot be wrong or deluded.
And so THAT merry go round started! Wish I was deaf at times as I CAN hear differences. Not all are good though. A lot still to do with system synergy and it pays to research and trial in your own system and your own ears, this is all that matters to you in the end.
I fully realise towards the end I was trying to use cables as tone controls to achieve the sound I desired in my room. And it worked.
Along came the Lyngdorf2170 and I decided to step off the cable merry go round... Mostly...lol.
I am sure I will get the itch to go even further upmarket on cables just to see " what if" again.
In my system, to my ears, cable changes made audible changes both good and bad.
