I would try a different cable to rule out the possibility of a bad cable. You can get a cheap Monoprice for that exercise.

PS Audio uses its own configuration for I2S which doesn’t match some other items. If you do a search, you can find how to fix it. Because I have a PS Audio DAC, I had to sell a recently acquired Denafrips Iris and get the Hermes because the Iris didn’t have a configurable I2S setup whereas the Hermes did. The other issue is that a lot of I2S cables are essentially HDMI cables so they have both audio and video pins active. I don’t know enough to tell you whether certain cables such as Tubulus which I believe just have active audio pins would make a difference or not. In any event, here is one example of this discussion on another site: https://antipodes.support/t/i2s-issues-with-ps-audio-direct-stream-dac/1176 |
Another Holo May owner here. Assuming you have either the L2 or KTE versions you probably want to use the USB input for your favorite source anyway. As I'm sure you know, the May is one of few DACs that have next-level USB implementation with full galvanic isolation. If you're already using that and looking to connect a second or third source then I can sympathize with you as I also had I2S issues trying to connect a HiFi Rose 130. I finally hit on a combination that worked (both units are configurable) but found I preferred USB. As soon as I modify my Oppo to have an I2S output I'll be trying it again. I'm normally an I2S evangelist. |
