You can pick up an Elite SACD player online from Audiophile Liquidators for under $500. I have the player and have been very happy with it. The Elite SACD players seemed to be a solid product. I picked mine up for under $250 direction from Pioneer, but I think they are no longer listed. |
Your lucky day. The answer is a refurb Sony 595 from SonyStyle, shipped for $60. Best is that if you don't like it, SonyStyle will pick it up for free and give you all your money back. I know, you are asking what is the catch. Well only that you need to check the Sony site on a regular basis as these units come in and out of inventory. They go quickly, so keep a look out. There are many reviews of this unit, so do a search. I have brought five of these, three of them I gave away as gifts over the past year. Each person that received them loves them with no problems reported. Yes, it is a SACD, 5 cd changer unit. People have told me that most of the chips used in the unit can be found in Sony's higher priced units and many hi end units fro which Sony provided chips. |

Summitav - I puchased a subwoofer from them and it arrived in a factory sealed box, but did have an issue. It cost me the shipping to send it back, but they replaced it with another new one after they confirmed the issue. I talked to the same person more than once on the tech line and he actually remembered our previous conversation. I'm not saying that they are without problems, just one persons experience. |
I second the Sony suggestion. A big issue with used CD players is service when needed is SERVICE, and I find Sony's service simply stellar. They also make great equipment that matches or exceeds many other brands performance costing 5 to 10 times more. My humble opinion after numerous comparisons of my Sony CDP-1 & Projector VPL-100 & BDP5000 Blu Ray to other brands as said above. Simply a great company with significant research, distribution, service, & pricing advantages due to it's size that others cannot emulate. |
Which of the Pioneer Elite units are you suggesting from Audio Liquidators? I see they have several on their page as well as some other brands too.
Thanks

The Elite PD-D6-J. I have this and have been very happy with it. The Audiophile Liquidator price isn't a steal (I got my from Pioneer directly for under $240 to my door), but it's a solid unit that get great reviews. Mine is not sitting on three Nordost Sort Kones that, to my ear, made a significant improvement. I know there are better units out there and possibly for similar money, but I have been impressed with this one. |

You may also want to read their warrantee policy, since they are not authorized and if the manufacturer knows where it was purchased you will have no warrantee. Just making sure you know what you are buying or not buying. They tell you this on their site. |
Summitav - You're correct that it's a bit of a gamble to purchase from an unauthorized dealer. I was a little concerned when I had the issue with the subwoofer but was happy with the service that I received. One of the options was for them to repair the subwoofer and I wouldn't have been very happy with that solution. Sending the unit back did require a little shipping out of pocket, but you win some and you lose some. I was able to get the subwoofer at a price that I was willing to gamble a bit on, I wouldn't have made the same choice for my speakers or receiver that I purchased at a local shop.
While it may sound like I'm arguing with you, I'm actually glad that you're providing a differnt view so the OP can make a purchase with a full understanding of the risks. |
Here is a great CD player for little $$$. The Onkyo DX-7555's build quality is very good and as the phrase suggests, "a giant killer". Wolfson WM8740 DACs. No affiliation.

On CD players like the Marantz that has IPOD support, does anyone know if that means I can listen to Sirius radio off the Ipod touch? Or does it only allow me to listen to the music on the Ipod?
I have a Pioneer Elite receiver that has an Ipod Dock and it only allows me to see the music files not the other things like podcasts or other audio/streaming functions of the Ipod. |
I just went to one of the links American Theater above for the NAD CD player as they also have the Marantz and was shocked to see they try to add over $70 shipping for the unit
That sure makes up for some of the big discount they are claiming to offer. |
Edonsmith,
Here is a better offer on the NAD. Higher price but with free shipping. Remember, in these times, most everything is negotiable.

I think I have narrowed my choices down to one of these.
Marantz 8003 Marantz 8004 Marantz claims there is a sonic difference due to internal changes
Nad 565
Cambridge 650,740 or even an 840 if I found a nice used one for a deal.
Does anyone have any comments on these models? |
