I need an A/V receiver

I had a Denon AVR2400 before I upgraded to separates. It was musical, for a receiver, and performed HT duties admirably. At your price point you might be able to find one on Ebay. Since you didn't specify what the primary use would be i.e. music or HT, I can't really tell you if the Denon is an appropriate choice. If HT is not a consideration I would look for an integrated amp like the Creek 4330 ($500) or Cambridge A300 ($250).

There are a ton of them on eBay under receiver and home theatre catagories. If I were you I would look for an Onkyo. Good quality and reliability for the price. I've seen some of the original Dolby Digital (AC-3) models from $150 to $200. (50 to 60 watts models for 5 channels).
