Hum and s-video cable?


I have been fighting a hum when I turn up my integrated amp. I have a Denon dvd-5000 and a primare integrated amp. I run an s-video cable to my tv. when I disconnected the s-video from my tv, the hum disappeared!!!! do I get a better grade of s-video cable or????

It has nothing to do with your s-video cable it is a ground loop hum probably related to cable television. I'm assuming you have cable tv, if so get a cheater plug from any hardware plug to check, if the hum disapears when the ground is lifted you've found your problem. There are other safer alternatives to cheater plugs to pursue as a long term solution, I can't think of any off hand but perhaps someone more knowledgable will chime in. If not just do a forum search using the word hum and you'll find a wealth of information. Good luck!
thanks for your response, I just ordered a filter for the coax cable, that is supposed to remove the hum. I tried the rest of the stuff people have suggested. I will respond next week with more info when it arrives.

Hum gone! Got part #XA-63400,ground breaker from Hometech Solutions, 1-888-257-4406 for $7.45 plus shipping. Goes onthe cable outlet onthe wall and you coax attatches to it. Hum Gone! je
