So I'm in Fresno. I'll bring even more beer- (Anchor Steam Old Foghorn barley wine!...we'll only need 2 of those bad boys), cigars, and some killer Jazz on Vinyl! You have pizza waiting. Be there in 3 hours. Ha Ha Ha! We can stay up for 2 days straight and do the whole marathon music listening thing! I'll be gone by early Monday morning just in time for you to get a shower and go to work.

Martinmobile, if we drink barleywine I won't be able to drink my Centenario Anejo Tequila in between beers because I'll snooze right through the killer jazz-not embarrassed to admit that's happened before! Alas, had Pizza My Heart last night and party time is over as I'm picking my wife and daughter up at SFO tomorrow morning and today is cleanup day. Good idea though, I was on my feet swingin' to Ramsey Lewis' At The Bohemian Caverns 'till 11:30pm and having a blast last night. 6:45am now and time to check out a Kenny Dorham CD set containing Eight Classic Albums that I picked up at Amoeba for $9.99 in SF after I took the girls to the airport.

Let's see...no one has yet commented on " My wife is in Italy for 10 days."

Given 'la caccia alla stranieri' (the hunt for foreign women) is a national pastime of Italian men, I'll wager she's likely having at least an exciting a time as you, your beer and your rig.

I know. I'm married and have kids too. Nice to dream about the times when I could go a little wild and do silly things. But that was a long, long time ago. So I get where you're at. Besides, Barleywine is some seriously wicked stuff and not for the faint of heart. Love Amoeba in Berkeley. Rasputins too. Although the Amoeba in the Haight-Ashbury district is very cool and has just as much stuff. Not sure which is cooler- the 'ol hippy district in S.F.? or Telegraph ave. in Beserkley? Got a whole lot of my CD's and Vinyl from those places. You have a nice audio system my friend. My wife loves the purple walls too, which speaks volumes about W.A.F. and the "synergy" between home decor and piles of vinyl and electronics. When mama's happy...everybody is happy.

My wife and daughter usually go with my in-laws for a couple of weeks in the summer, and even though I do miss them, it is a great time to have all my audiophile buddies over. Also a great time to try some new tequilas (I prefer Blanco's) and some new brews, and fire up the grill of course!

Man! sounds like all the posters here have a deep set appreciation for Beer, Tequila, and enjoying a little uninterrupted music listening time while the wife goes away for the occassional trip. Kudos to us all for being in the same boat! My lovely wife DOES enjoy our stereo system but CAN'T endure hours and hours of listening, and certainly NOT all day...or all weekend long. She's just too fidgety and likes to fiddle-fart around the house doing many things at once. Quite the multi-tasker I might add. As for ME? I could park my butt in front of my system all day long, throw on some good tunes, crack open a nice German Dopplebock, call a few Audiophile buddies over...and let the games begin! When mama goes out of town, I go for the marathon music listening sessions. Last weekend, while the wife went to L.A. to visit her sister, I had 3 friends over at 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon...at 4 a.m. Sunday morning, we were still going. Other than getting up out of our listening chairs to grab another German Stout, or Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale, or,.... make our way to the LOO to "rid" our bodys of those fine malted adult beverages we had been enjoying....we pretty much went 14 hours straight! It was a beautiful thing! System was sounding liquid, and palpable. Tonal balance was dead on. Bass response was tight. The electrical power grid in my neighborhood was being particularly kind to my juice. All the stars were shining, and the earth as we know it was spinning smoothly upon its axis. Just one of those groovy evenings we all live for. One that doesn't happen that often when mama is home. So yeah, we Audiophile dudes need our "space" to get into our music listening groove, and be able to go as long as we choose, (without having to go help get groceries, take the dog to the vet, go have the car washed, or accompany our lovlies to Macys so she can buy more shoes and make-up). So, next time my wife goes out of town I'll call you guys. I think we'de have way too much fun together. Maybe even turn one another on to some new music. Not to mention taking a trip down "Craft beer" Boulevard, and "Import Brew" Alley! Ha Ha Ha! (no wonder I can't seem to shake this damn beer gut). Any of you fellow A-goners enjoy a good cigar once in a while? I like Arturo Fuentes Maduro Especialle, and La Gloria Cubanas. Just thought I'de share. Peace to all. Fun thread Bizango1.

Nice to see some of us have fun with our hobby and not always fretting about hum or if our cables are properly elevated off the carpet. 6:30am, Cecilia Bartoli's Vivaldi album, an Eno-like looper who calls himself Lusine, last solo listening session of ten days straight, then off to the airport to retrieve family and Italian souvenirs. Coffee, no Anejo.

And what do you think about your new speakers?

I am extremely happy with the Adagios. Compared to others I've had-Revel F32, PSB Synchrony one, Usher BE-718, etc-I can't really fault them in any big way but I just really like the Adagios a lot more. If I liked the others as much I would have kept them. I did like the Ushers but my wife said the color of the wood clashed with everything else in the room so they had to go. It was a blessing in disguise. The Adagios are detailed without being annoying, have more meat on the bones than the other three I mentioned, and image/soundstage as well as the Ushers. They sound sweet but overly euphonic. Started out with the NAD M3 and that was great but the display was too small for my eyesight so I just brought home a BAT VK300xSE and it is even better in detail and musicality. I could still be very happy with the M3 if I could see what the volume setting is from my chair-it is a great amp.

I am *thoroughly* confused - why do you have to *see* the volume setting? It is either the right voume of it isn't, right??

RW, I like to know the volume setting *before* the music starts. I don't like to start the music too loud or too soft. I put the CD in, sit down, then start the music at my preferred volume-even in the dark. Then maybe some fine adjustments.
