hissing sound from supertweeter...PLS advise

when im within a foot or so of my speakers i hear this hissing sound..after some experimenting...i found that when i remove the supertweeter connection at the speaker, the sound is 99% gone. btw, this sound does not increase as i turn up the volume. when playing music, and removing the supertweeter connection..it just gets so much quieter..i know part of that is the signal im losing entriely.. can this be corrected? ive got 4 way speakers in activ mode in an all linn system thanks for your help
