Herron Audio VTPH-2A Question

I want to get this phono stage. I worry it might be too detailed and unforgiving. I do like an
extended low end and a deep soundstage. I like all kinds of music, especially prog rock.
I have considered the Manley Chinook. I really want something with tubes. Has anybody
owned both of these? I also like strings, woodwinds, acoustic things. Thanks.

I am looking into the NOS 12AX7 tubes. It looks like there are
quite a few JAN types available. The Teles are very expensive.
I have the Herron VTPH-2A. Have not listened to the Manley. But the Herron is fantastic, as is the service provided by Keith. I doubt I will ever change phono stages. Very truthful presentation--sounds like music!
Yes it would I use a Benz Micro Wood SL with a VPI Classic One Table. Keith will let you audition the VTPH-2 for like 30 days just have to pay shipping to and fro if you return it.

I own the Herron and have not heard the Manley.  The Herron is very neutral sounding and accurate. I would not describe it as harsh or warm. I listen primarily to Classical and Female Jazz vocals. Also I use NOS Telefunkens in my VTPH-2 and felt it was a worthwhile upgrade to the stock Ei tubes.
