Has anybody heard a decompression as good as this?

Hi,

I'm a newbie and I've discovered the nightmare of compression. Anyway, while coming home from work I heard a five minute interview that blew me away. Somewhere around minute 2 they give a demo of using probability theory to recreate a song from the most basic harmonics.

Here's the link: www.npr.org/templates/player/mediaPlayer.html?action=1&t=1&islist=false&id=127088641&m=127088714

Has anybody heard of this being implemented in any equipment?

I checked this out and it it very interesting.

The true test of any compression scheme is if it can create a bit-perfect copy of the original.
MP3 and others fail this test, losing some information
ALAC (Apple Lossless) and FLAC (Free Lossless) both pass this test and sound good.
Apple and FLAC both reduce file sizes by 40% or more.
