HARMONIC TECHNOLOGY Magic 1 vs CARDAS Golden Cross

I am in need of a 1m XLR interconnect between the preamp (Classe' CP-60) and the amp (Sim Audio W-3). I have been considering the Cardas Golden Cross as I had a Hexlink 5C before and it sounded quite good...

I read some good reviews on the HT Magic One... thought it might be comparable... looking for some feedback here and some alternatives...

thx...

Hello,

I used both of these a few years ago between the preamp (ARC LS5) and amp (ARC VT130) and the difference between these is dramatic. The CGC is way off neutral as it brings on an exaggerated warmth (dark sounding) that can become quite addicting but at a loss of resolution and detail on the top frequencies. But for systems where there's a bit of forwardness or fatigue, this cable works mighty fine. Too much of this cable in a system is absolutely not a good idea. I mixed it with SilverAudio cabling with great success.

The Harmonic Tech Magic 1 cable is much more neutral. It reminded of the NBS classic series, like the mid priced Signature where there was a more mellow than exaggerated presentation. But it might be a bit too mellow for your tastes. I find the NBS to be a good choice at right in the middle and with more resolution. Coherency through the frequencies with the Magic 1 is very good with no emphasis in any range.

Considering that NBS Sig XLR cables sell for the same price on the used market as these other two, I would recommend this as serious contender.

I also own a Sim W3 AND have used both of the IC's you mention- my suggestion- regular Cardas Cross- more neutral than the Golden Cross/Hex Golden 5C, yet still good detail, and the classic Cardas warmth remains. Many don't know or realize that the original Cross is really the cable that put Cardas on the map...
