This is to solve a very specific problem- hum when Grado and Rega are used together.
Years ago I found a simpler method. The motor is ungrounded. So I ran a wire connected between the motor case and the tonearm ground. No more hum with the Grado cartridge. I've done this several times with the same result.
This is an oversight on Rega's part; no idea why they've not fixed this problem in the last 20 years... plenty of time to sort that one out.
IMO/IME, 8 inches of wire is pretty cheap and the kind of wire used isn't critical :)
