+1 For Ian Paice. Excellent and exciting player who is not often mentioned in this company but shouls be. I'll also throw in Tre Cool of Green Day as a great natural talent.

Always interesting to hear the opinions of others. In the mid seventies when Derek and the Dominoes was in heavy rotation on the turntables of myself and 2 good friends, we loved that record, but often complained about Jim Gordon's lackluster playing which we all thought took away from the otherwise excellent musicianship on that record. Listening to it now, which I don't do very often, I still feel that another drummer could have made a better contribution to that band.

I will have to respectfully disagree about Alan White. I believe that Yes made a huge mistake when they brought him on board after Bill Bruford left. Very disappointing in recorded material as well as live performances. 

Well Matt, here we go again making music into a contest. Can't we say that there are many great talents, each with a different style? You love Jon Bonham for example, and I think that he was a perfect fit for Led Zeppelin, but he'd be a terrible fit for a band that needed a drummer who was lighter on his feet. So, even within the rock genre, there are so many great players, each "great" in a different way. 

I saw Carl Palmer perform live 2 weeks ago, and he is simply amazing. All of the power and precision he is known for is still there. He is trying to get together a more complete band. Presently he has only a young guitarist and a young bassist. He desperately needs a singer and a keyboard player. When he gets that, it will be a first class band.
