good analog out of directv?

any way to get good analog sound out of the directv box. in other words decompressing the signal? thanks bryon

I've had good results taking the optical out running it through a Theta THC into a DAC. My only caveat is that my system is totally vacuum tube, that certainly helps with the digititis.
thanks guys, appearently this means i have to get a directv with a digital out vs. using the analog out? what is a thc? thanks bryon
I expect all directv boxes have digital out. That's the way you get surround sound (dolby digital) and the common way people connect them to their cheap home theater in a box units. If you run it into a 2-channel dac I expect you need to make sure to configure it to output 2-channel only (not DD).
