Getting a Dynavector Te Kaitora Rua rebuilt

Hello,
My Dynavector Te Kaitora Rua seems to be producing some distortion in one channel. I have always babied this cartridge but it is about seven years old now, so perhaps it needs a rebuild. Does anybody have any idea what it would cost to have the cartridge rebuilt? What is the procedure?

Regards,

I'd contact Dynavector and SoundSmith. It may be you need a rebuild or it could be a retip is all you need.
Thanks for the reply. Is SoundSmith a good option? I have been reading about them and it does seem like a good way to go for a reasonable price. I'm afraid of what Dynavector will charge me.

SoundSmith has a great reputation. There are purists who will say that you will no longer have a pure Dynavector cart. And that may be true. But I have never seen a complaint from someone about the sound of the SoundSmith retyped or rebuilt carts. Check with SoundSmith on whether they recommend retyping or rebuilding. Only major downside is the wait: 10-12 weeks is what I was quoted. Only 4 more weeks to go to get my XX-2 rebuild...
There is also Axel option (www.schallplattennadeln.de). +/-
4 weeks wait. You can ask Axel what you like but he need to
see your cart first. The used expressions are rather vaque.
'Retip' means ususaly exchanging of the cantilever/stylus
combo while it should mean stylus only. What 'rebuilding'
means is anyone's quess. The difference is this. For any
cantilever/stylus combination you will know the price in
advance. For other repair kinds you need to post your cart
and ask for quotation.

With Dynavector your cartridge would go back to Japan, and in essence you would have a new cartridge. Can't say what happens elsewhere.
I have just had a quote for rebuilding in Japan or Exchange for new off the self. $500 difference on XV-1s

I can't be bothered waiting the 5-6 weeks to rebuild so option 2 looks best.
