Local Chicago Hi-Fi Stores and Buyers:

  • Saturday Audio Exchange: They specialize in new and used high-fidelity audio equipment and offer trade-in options.
  • DeciBel Audio Inc: They also deal with new and used hi-fi gear and buy used equipment.
  • Chicago Audio: A store with both new and used inventory, including vintage equipment.
  • Upscale Audio Exchange: Specializes in new and used audio and visual equipment.
  • Stereo Rehab: A repair shop that fixes and restores audio equipment, potentially interested in buying.
  • Shady Rest Vintage & Vinyl: Offers vintage audio equipment alongside vinyl.
  • Pawn Shops & General Electronics Stores:You could try pawn shops like Cash America Pawn, but they might offer lower prices due to limited knowledge of vintage gear.
  • Direct Local Buyers: Utilize Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace for local transactions without fees, though be cautious of potential scams and time-wasters.

I am Chicago based and had good experiences with Saturday Audio Exchange although the last time was 4 years ago.  In general you will get more value if you are using your equipment as a trade in for another piece.  Decibel Audio is also a nice store although they were more choosy about some of the stuff that I sold to Saturday
