For Those Who Are Unaware of The Cable Company

If you are shopping for new cables and are intimidated by the enormous range of possibilities, The Cable Company might be of interest to you because:

1) Their cable lending library is an affordable means of borrowing already burned in cables and auditioning them at home.

2) They offer individualized advice based upon your budget, gear and sonic preferences.

3) Return/refund policy.

There have been some complaints in the past about salesmen pushing particular brands. This hasn't been my experience, however. I've repeatedly sought out the guidance of one particular guy and I couldn't be more satisfied with how I've been treated and the sonic improvements. If you are intersected, PM me and I will provide you with his name.

They don't carry every cable in existence. Nobody does. But they carry a much greater range than anyone else I know of. Accordingly, my last 5 out of 6 cable purchases have been from them.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy from The Cable Company if they had a product I wanted. But my couple of interactions with their "consultants" were a big turn off.

Without inquiring about my background, I was treated to a round of "audiophile 101" by the first one. I made the mistake of listing my current components and cables while I was still building my system. I then received a lecture about how my current cables were "a mess" and I needed to replace them with a full loom of a brand I had already mentioned I didn't care for. I eventually realized he was upset because the cables I had and liked were from Transparent Audio and they don't sell those.

When I explained that I liked most of the cables I had, he told be he couldn't help me if I wasn't "open minded", meaning buying a brand they sell. No pretense of actually helping me find the right cable for my system. It was a heavy handed, insulting interaction.

I spoke with them at length and we decided what I should try, said "let's do it", and never heard a word from them again. Happened twice. Don't waste your time.

I’ve been a business partner with Steven Aug at TheCableCompany for close to twenty years and our exchanges have always been prompt, pleasant and informative.  Steve know their product lines very well.  They're no hard sell tactics when dealing with him.  Just honest information.

Maybe there was a mixup in communication.

I am a VERY direct guy, and if someone behaves poorly towards me, especially in retail, since I owned a retail business, I let them  know that  if they worked for me and they behaved this way towards a customer, they would not be working for me any longer!

So, trust me when I say that Steve is a VERY upright guy. I don’t know who the other salesmen are, but "In Steve We Trust."
