Thanks for the heads up. A lot of these old benefit discs are great. 99x, a long gone alternative radio station here in Atlanta, released several benefit "Live X" cd's through the years. The early ones have great recordings of The Indigo Girls, Cracker, REM, and others before they got too big. I have a couple of similar cd's from KFOG out west. Sometimes you can find these on EBAY and Amazon for reasonable prices.
Female Vocalists Galore "Respond II" Album
As I was online looking for the first two Neko Case CDs, I came across this album "Respond II". It popped up in my search because Neko Case has a song on this compilation CD.
The list of female artists is impressive: Neko Case, Joan Baez, Jonatha Brooke, Indigo Girls, Aimee Mann, Sleater-Kinney, Ani Difranco, Patty Griffin, Kristin Hersh, Susan Tedeschi, Suzanne Vega, Sarah McLachlan, Tracy Bonham, Dolly Parton, Odetta, Sweet Honey In Rock and many others. This double CD has 16 songs per CD for a total of 32.
The album was a benefit to aid RESPOND Inc. and the Family Violence Prevention Fund (FVPF) which are working to end domestic violence, so not only is this a GREAT 2-disc CD, but it benefits a couple of wonderful organizations.
The songs are fantastic and the recording is pretty decent. There is also a "Respond I" album which I finally found, but haven't received yet. It is more bluegrass/folk oriented, while "Respond II" is more rock.
Highly recommended!!
