Favorite Newly Discovered Female Vocalist

Thanks to Qobuz I can endlessly explore new music and artists. I enjoy female vocalists and I’m always searching for new talent whether Pop, Jazz or Classical.

A few I have discovered and very much enjoy:

Laufey: From Iceland and writes very melodic somewhat old school songs

Eva Cassidy: Amazing voice. Best cover of Over The Rainbow I’ve ever heard. Spellbinding and emotional

Diana Panton: Very silky smooth voice. Enjoy anything she sings

Pamela D’Amico: Wonderful Brazilian singer/Guitarist

Kacey Musgraves: Grammy winning artist who spans pop and country. Her song The Architect is a gem  She’s been singing for a while but I just found her on a recommendation from my granddaughter

Michelle Simonal: Another wonderful singer from Brazil Love her rendition of the 80s song Some People as well as other covers

Sarah Menescal: Also from Brazil and offers wonderful covers. Especially love her cover of Over My Shoulder

Stacey Kent: What a delicate sweet voice. Especially enjoy her covers of So Nice and The Gentle Rain on the Brazilian Sketches Album

Hope you enjoy these artists as much as I do

Oh although not a singer but a Classical Pianist please check out

Yuja Wang: Phenomenal and well recorded by DG especially her newest

The Vienna Recital

Danielle Nicole.  Depending on the song, she can bring out her inner Etta James, Susan Tedeschi (mentioned previously), Janis Joplin, or Amy Winehouse.  Brilliant!  Oh yeah, and she was the first female to win a Blues Music Award as Bass Player of the Year (she has won several more and was nominated for a Grammy).

Here are just two links to get you started.  Everything she does is worth checking out.  You're welcome wink

This one isn’t newly discovered by me like yesterday, but a couple of years ago on public radio I heard Mia Doi Todd (who I had never heard of before) sing My Baby Lives In Paris, and I really liked the song and what her voice did with it, so I bought the CD and she is pretty good.

Janis Ian - 1975 album "Between the Lines", which multiple high resolution versions of some of the songs on this album are on Tidal.  Her 1992 album "Breaking Sielence" mastered by Doug Sax was one of the best sounding pop albums of the 1990s, IMO.

Joy Williams  - Check out songs Welcome Home, Till Forever, Before I Sleep, One Day I Will and What a Good Woman Does.  She was half of the Civil Wars, before they broke up.

Enjoy

I just heard Mala Waldron live this afternoon.
Great vocalist and pianist.
Goddaughter of Billy Holiday.

Limited recording output, sadly.
