Favorite Newly Discovered Female Vocalist

Thanks to Qobuz I can endlessly explore new music and artists. I enjoy female vocalists and I’m always searching for new talent whether Pop, Jazz or Classical.

A few I have discovered and very much enjoy:

Laufey: From Iceland and writes very melodic somewhat old school songs

Eva Cassidy: Amazing voice. Best cover of Over The Rainbow I’ve ever heard. Spellbinding and emotional

Diana Panton: Very silky smooth voice. Enjoy anything she sings

Pamela D’Amico: Wonderful Brazilian singer/Guitarist

Kacey Musgraves: Grammy winning artist who spans pop and country. Her song The Architect is a gem  She’s been singing for a while but I just found her on a recommendation from my granddaughter

Michelle Simonal: Another wonderful singer from Brazil Love her rendition of the 80s song Some People as well as other covers

Sarah Menescal: Also from Brazil and offers wonderful covers. Especially love her cover of Over My Shoulder

Stacey Kent: What a delicate sweet voice. Especially enjoy her covers of So Nice and The Gentle Rain on the Brazilian Sketches Album

Hope you enjoy these artists as much as I do

Oh although not a singer but a Classical Pianist please check out

Yuja Wang: Phenomenal and well recorded by DG especially her newest

The Vienna Recital

Here’s a few absolutely, fabulous female vocalists I don’t think have been mentioned

Raye - from London. Started as song writer. Now absolutely fabulous writer, singer, performer. Check her recent highly acclaimed jazzy studio and live performance recordings

- My 21st Century Blues; 21st Century Symphony (Live); and Live at Montreaux

Niia - highly sophisticated, very groovy.  From Philly, but I would never have guessed.  Start with Niia I; Niia Ii

Emmaline - classical violinist turned writer/singer/violinist doing retro-jazz with a  nightclub sound. Band includes swanky jazz guitar, bass, keyboards, drums snd Emmaline brings silky vocals and violin. Based in Cincinnati.  Seen her live set twice.  Her latest is Indiana Skies.  Did I say she looks like a brunette Marilyn Monroe?

Rozzi - from SanFran. Discovered when she was 19 by Maroon 5’s Adam Levine. Very strong. You will enjoy. Start with an earlier 2018 recording, Bad Together

it’s a start. Look forward to hearing what you think

Sarah Jarosz - start with Undercurrent. If you like that, she has 7 other albums just as good.

Sierra Hull

Sarah McLaughlin

Roseanne Cash

If you haven't, check out Sierra Ferrel. Good ole girl from my state, West Virginia.

And ditto on Allison Russell.
