Favorite Chorals.....

As a newbie to this genre...what are some of your favorites...so far I have enjoyed Mozart's Requim...and ofcourse the stellar Choral movement in Beethoven's 9th...any others that spring to mind?

One of the most beautiful choral recordings I've heard is a Swedish LP on the Proprius label (#7762) entitled Cantate Domino. There are a number of pieces on it including some Christmas music, folk music and classical pieces. The voices are amazing and the recording quality is excellent.
Agnus Dei, Naxos 8.556701

Mozart, Exsultate-Sacred Arias, Teldec 4509-95985-2

Mozart, Great Mass in C Minor, DG 439 012-2

A Feather on the Breath of God, Hildegard of Bingen, (Gothic Voices) Hyperion, cda66039

Beethoven, Missa Solemnis

These are reflective, (well... the Mass in C has some "fireworks,") which may not run to your tastes, but if they do, I highly recommend these.

Enjoy your music,

Charlie
If you want something more modern that rocks, then pick up a recording of Orff's Carmina Burana.

I sing in a professional choir, so I have many favorites. Too many to list. I can list more, if you tell me more of what you're interested in.

We have a concert coming up March 30th with Dave Brubeck, if you'd like a jazz bent to your choral.
John Rutter's "Gloria" is a rousing, fun affair - very dynamic, very engaging. Rutter/CambridgeSingers, Phillip Jones Brass, Collegium COL100 (LP)
Two other requiems, by Verdi and Faure, both great in their own ways, and also 'The Kingdom' by Elgar. All 3 of these are great choral works.
