Experience with Metrum Acoustics MQA modules?

I really just wanted to highlight an issue for anyone else out there considering this. I recently bought a second hand Metrum Adagio DAC/Digital Preamp. Im very pleased with it especially after I got the DAC3 upgrade chips from Metrum at nearly £2K.
I wanted to give the MQA module a try to see how that improved streaming Tidal MQA files so ordered direct from Metrum and got the module last week. When fitted the DAC stopped working. When I asked Metrum customer service they said to check the age of the Adagio - which I did. Dated 2016 on the circuit board. They then told me this means I cant use the MQA upgrade and need to return it. They have offered a refund but are currently considering whether to refund the postage and import duties. Their website makes no mention that the MQA module is only compatible with certain models. Neither does the manual they supply. So - if you are considering this check the compatibility first as Metrum wont tell you unless you ask.
Am I right to think this is pretty poor customer service?

Yup, you are correct. It should be stated on the web site the module only works with units over a certain serial number or model number.
fwiw i didn't think the mqa module improved the sonics of the metrum jade i had... plus it added a subtle but irritating popping at the start of each track when it switched from non mqa to mqa...

the company is kinda on life support these days, as i understand it
