Just in,

New York City confirmed cases double overnight.
The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in New York City more than doubled overnight on Wednesday, with 1,871 people testing positive for the disease.

There were 948 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday. New York City Mayor, Bill de Blasio, had announced on Tuesday that the total number of confirmed cases stood at 923. It marks the largest one-day increase of the Covid-19 disease in New York.

One week ago, the total number of coronavirus cases in New York state was 216, and 11 in the week before that. The state’s governor, Andrew Cuomo, announced on Wednesday morning that there were now 2,382 confirmed coronavirus cases in New York state, of which 1,871 were in New York City.

Mayor Bill de Blasio said,

"Yesterday we saw a jump of a hundred cases, today we saw a jump of hundreds of cases," said Mayor de Blasio.

"You are talking about a massive surge in demand. We have been appealing constantly to the federal government to start a supply system that will actually help our hospitals survive an unprecedented surge in cases. This is the problem."

The Mayor added: "Hospitals are going to have massive new demands, and things like surgical masks - you just burn through those in a normal day let alone in an emergency".

"President Trump has to mobilise the United States military to fully act in the coronavirus situation."

Asked by CNN news anchor Andrew Cooper if he wanted to see the United States military setting up hospitals in the streets of New York City, Mayor de Blasio said "I do’’.

"I am talking about the United States military going where they can save the most lives of Americans, and that’s places like New York, Seattle and California and soon that’s going to be a lot of other places"

The naming of epidemics (pandemics) after places of origin or concentration is how it has always been done...more examples the Spanish Flu did not originate there but was centered there once it arrived. Ebola was named after the Ebola River in Africa. MERS means Middle East Respiratory Syndrome. On and on it goes... nothing racist or nationist about it.

>>>>Uh, it’s the singer, not the song. 😬
OK, here is a little good news for the US. The mortality rate in the US has fallen to 1.47% with the flood of new cases due to the ramping up of testing. The new numbers in the US are 13,229 confirmed cases and 195 deaths. Sadly in Italy, by contrast, the numbers are much worse with 41035 cases and 3405 deaths for a mortality rate of 8.3%.

This just in!

Governor Newsom orders everyone stay at home. The state projects that 25.5 million people in California will be infected with the coronavirus over an eight-week period, Newsom said in a letter sent to President Trump on Wednesday requesting the deployment of the USNS Mercy Hospital Ship to the port of Los Angeles through Sept. 1.

Meanwhile stock futures plunge.

Mahgister types too fast again. How entertaining. Get head in gear and your a$$ will follow.
Even if approved the drug will only be used in certain limited “compassionate” cases. That was all covered in today’s briefing. Snooze, you lose.
An honest mistake. Lucian Truskott, the America hater. Running five mikes can sometimes dissipate hate and anger. 🏃‍♂️  Don’t be a hater, be a lover. 💕

FDA just approve chloroquine use, and Bayer offer to send it...

>>>>>Are you sure? I watched the noon briefing by Trump et al and he misspoke, the drug is not immediately available but currently under study by FDA. The head of FDA the former cancer doctor indicated it would not (rpt not) be ready immediately and that FDA would be thorough and careful. Did FDA approve it only six hours later? Not bloody likely! Nobody would trust that. Hel-loo!
Why so angry, grasshopper? Don’t dwell on the past. It can do no good. Woulda, shoulda, coulda. God gave you two ears and one mouth for a reason. Who cares about China? The US has the best doctors in the world. It was the US military experts at Ft. Detrick, MD, home to the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC), with its bio-defense agency, the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases(USAMRIID) who solved Ebola and other recent pandemics.
You have still not learned what flattening the curve means, grasshopper. Why do you think everyone is cooling his heels at home and everything is shut down? Hel-loo!

Yes but neither should people soft step around issues involving life or death.

>>>>Huh? What are you talking about? Nobody is soft stepping around anything. Far from it. You can go back to sleep again.
My neighbor who was the head of the Shuttle propulsion system once told me always support your boss. My boss once told me, it’s a love-in, referring to the project, both government and contractors. Things would generally work a lot smoother if people would dispense with all the rancor and personal attacks. I’m referring to the whole Coronavirus task force, I.e., everybody.
I just looked up angry old fart in the dictionary. There was a picture of Schubert. 😡 Then there are the mildly retarded Floridians on their eternal Spring Break. 🏄‍♀️
Since testing is all hosed up they’re investigating miracles now.
Thanks anyway. I’ll take my chances.

“Chloroquine is a prescription drug. It can have side effects and has contraindications. One often cited side effect is chloroquine retinopathy, which can result in permanent vision loss after high cumulative doses of chloroquine. However, retinal damage is extremely rare in patients with a total dosage under 400g (dosage level only reached after years of treatment). Medical professionals must be consulted before use of chloroquine.”
