Yes you need a db meter and make sure spl is not greater than 80 db.there could be some resonance frequency your tympanic membrane does not like.the distortion could be lower in rocky and your volumn might be higher without knowing.with loud noise the stapedial tendon is activated to tense the tympanic membrane and that can be painful .also if you have some hearing loss the vestibular cochlear nerve has recruitment and activate to make it more sensitive.the rockports have a higher spl than ribbons and planars in general.get a hearing test.40 years of operating on ears under the microscope fixing it all.enjoy the music .
Ears hurt when listening after changing speakers
For years I had multiple models of Maggies and Martin Logan speakers. I could play them very loud with no problems with my ears. A few months ago I purchased the Rockport Aviors and now when I listen at moderate to high levels my ears start to hurt. Anyone one else experience this when changing speakers and would like thoughts on how to resolve other than turning the volume down. I do love the Rockport.
