Dunlavy SCIV 10

Hi all,

This is my first thread, please bear with me.

I have to replace the woofers for my Dunlavy SCIV, it is a Morel 10" woofer, model name is not written on the drivers, but "Double Magnet 75mm Hexatech Aluminium Voice Coil - Made in England" is written on the magnet. I have looked around and could not find the same driver.

Anybody can help me out on what to do?

Cheers,

Hi Tony 007,

Thank you for your clarification mate. Are you very familiar with Dunlavy? I just wonder if I do have to change my Morel to ScanSpeak does anybody have the diagram for the passive? Is there more modification needed for the enclosure?

Cheers,
Yes Pryso, mine is the SCIV, one of the earlier production of that model. I was surprised too that the drivers are Morel, since in many of the writings I read the drivers are Vifa.

But my tweet and midranges are Vifa I believe. I think Audio Video Logic is was the shop where I bought mine at. I really hope they are ok. Did try to email them but haven't got any reply yet.

Thanks Pryso.

Cheers,
Thank you Ncarv,

I did check it at Madisound, they did have a replacement for Dunlavy, but apparently they do not have the drivers anymore.

However if I replace the Morel drivers with Scanspeak or Vifa (those that were offered at Madisound) do I have to alter the xover?

Cheers,
@ Mothra; Whew, that's what I am afraid of mate... Guess I will have to continue my search on the Morel woofers...

@Gregm; Apparently Madisound only have the ScanSpeak and Vifa drivers, they don't have the Morels that are identical in my Dunlavy.
2) The thing is I couldnot find any part number in the Morel woofers.
3) I did contacted Morel but didn't get any reply and it has been some months now.
4) I will try diyaudio mate, hope can get some more solutions.

Thank you all for the inputs.

Cheers,
@ Mcfarland; I will try to reach Audio Video Logic I hope John has an email so I can contact him. If I am not mistaken, that might be the store that I bought it from in the 90's. Since that time I was living in St.Louis, and I remembered I had to drive quite a bit to get to the store, if my memory serves me corectly.
Thank you for your input mate.

@Pryso;Wow... didn't realized that such measurement took place for the Dunlavy... even for individual speaker.

Actually the original surround was badly torn apart, as I had a long lapse of "audio". Then I had the foam replaced, however it is a different foam since the repair shop didn't have the original replacement foam.

I will try to contact Miller Sound, hoping can get the replacement surround.

Thank you Pryso

Cheers
Hi Twilo,

Well mine is a Morel, I wish I can submit a picture of it mate. I've never alter nor open the drivers since I bought it new in 1994.

Cheers,
Hi Pryso,
First of all thank you for your kind attention on my matters mate.

I did contacted MillerSound and asked about the drivers, but apparently they didnot have the same Morel driver. As for the surround foam replacement, they have not replied since.

I asked Millersound whether I can just buy the most similar foam and send them to me, rather than I send the drivers halfway around the world which I feel uneasy about. By the looking at their website MillerSound does seem to be a reputable company.

After your input and recommendation, actually changing the drivers is my last option, so I will send the email again then mate. Hope I can get a solution from them.

By the way, I am inclined to get an integrated SET amp, do you think it will capable to drive the Dunlavy?

Cheers,
Hi Pryso,

I used to drive the Dunlavy with BAT VK500, and it drove it wonderfully, but during my absence in audio, I have sold it along with the VK5i preamps.
As I am starting to build up a system again, an integrated SET came in mind, because of the sensitivity rate, however I do put a note on your past experiences. The Dyns do need a good solid power to drive it but I don't think Morels are so much more easy to drive, unlike the ScanSpeak or Focals.
I will keep my eyes on powerful Solid State on the market then.

There is a Mark Levinson no. 23 up for sale in the local used market here, but I'm a little queasy whether it can still have a long life ahead of it. If I remember it right the ML 27 does have a good solid power in it.

I am writing again to Bill LeGall to ask whether it is possible for me to buy the surround and I will do the repair here.

Thank you for your input mate.
