DP29F DENON TURNTABLE

i  have   this turntable  denon dp29f  since 2012.
the first year i ran it with my sony home theatre.  it was sweet but not very  loud  .it would reach only medium volumes. but the sound was clean.

the next year i took it to a denon service agent. clearly he was better suited to laying bricks.they are terrible here when it comes TT.. he changed the cartridge claiming the volume would be better.  in donig so he almost mechanically destroyed the TT.

anyway  on testing it back at home it had huge loudness and huge distortion (simply unuseable loudess when we switched  its internal amp ). so there was either barely any sound or very loud distorted sound,(( pre amp on or off decided that). i firmly believed that he had mangled something out of line or left something broken or loose. but clearly the sound was huge but very bad now.if one pushed the  built in  preamp swtich to On and connected to Line in. with the switch  set to off there was hardly any sound.

the turntable sat idle for 6 yrs. recently i took it back to the same center and this time it worked fine when connected to two channel computer speakers. strangely no changes had been made.!!

however the the treble and voice was distorting a bit . sibilliance or whatever.   now this TT has no provision to adjust alignment of the cartridge..or maybe very limited. adjustment could be made for azimuth by loosening the headshell screw  and locking it when the sound feels right

. I have done this but still not  fully satisfied  as  the sound on
vocals are not so forward . the channel separation sounds good though. instruments sound good.

also i need to know the process of taking off the entire headshell on this particular TT. Shouldnt i be able to slowly slide it off the tone arm after loosening the clamping screw on the underside of the shell. ? i suppose there are pins in the headshell end that go into the tone arm. , so its just a matter of unplugging it from the tone arm?

Are there other adjustments that can be done on this TT??. cardtridges which would work better.? btw the signal output from the TT is so strong that i cant go beyond 60% volume on my computer speakers. else the sound distorts. ? do i really need to buy a separate phono stage pre amp. with adjustable gain?? this last one seems to be good idea to me

would be happy to get any tips on all this...thank you all in advance.!

Dear Amit, Bad news is that this is not really a hi-fi level turntable. It will never give you very good sound. You would be a lot better off investing in a new machine. Here are a few examples of decent lower end turntables that will sound a lot better than the old cheap Denon.

Audio-Technica AT-LP120X
Fluance RT81 Elite
REGA - Planar 1
