Debut III or MMF-5

Thanks guys. I always wanted a Rega but the RP1 seems to have a lot of
issues from what I've read and my brother's going through a bunch of trouble
trying to find someone to repair his P2 tonearm.

If
he's having trouble getting a Rega tonearm repaired, what makes you think it
would be any better if it were a Pro-Ject? After all, Rega has had a long, strong
presence in the US.

Have you done an objective evaluation of online buzz about the RP1 or did
your brother's problems send you in search of corroboration?

Anyway, given your choices I'd probably pick the MMF 5. It's a much more
substantially built 'table with a far more sophisticated plinth and vibration
control. Its tonearm is made for a wider range of cartridges. Many of the
<$500 belt drivers are built around a narrow range of workable cartridges
unless you get an upgraded counterweight. Another candidate s/b the Sota
Moonbeam.

Hey Bill. Check out US Audio Mart and search for Pro-Ject and you'll find my turntable. Reason for selling: I bought a vintage Rega Planar 25 table recently.

IMHO, I would take a Rega any day over the two you mention.

If it were my choice I would opt for the MMF-5. It is a substaintially upgraded design compared to the debut III. It has a split plinth to help reduce vibration, feet whch can be adjusted to level and comes with a better cartridge than the debut. Try to find a used one with the original packaging to minimize risk during shipping. Good luck.

Both are excellent turntables. I have a Pro-Ject Debut III for sale right now on another site. If interested, let me know. With that said, both the Pro-Ject and Music Hall turntables are manufactured at the same plant and represent excellent quality and value for the money spent. The only difference that I've heard people speak of is the esthetics associated with each model.
