Danny Gatton & Joey DeFrancesco

Just picked up their "Relentless." Where has this cd been all my life? Highly recommended.

Rock solid time, crazy whole-tone and pedal steel licks totally honest guitar playing without relying on gimmicks.

True, but ironic. There was a time when Gatton was best known for his magic dingus box and looping tricks (that would sometimes confuse his own band). He basically shelved all that after he was accused of being too gimmicky (right after Redneck Jazz, IIRC) and generally played it straight thereafter.

Yes Iso that video at Gallagher's is pure brilliance.
Danny takes 50 choruses on a blues, never repeats the same idea..... and he showcases everything that makes him great.

Gatton fan here...check out the Youtube video of him playing slide with a full beer bottle then continuing to wail with the towel over the neck...he was a national treasure.
Danny's version of Georgia On My Mind
(on Unfinished Business) is my very favorite version.... well, Ray did a good one, also.
One of the most versatile, often overlooked, guitarists ever. I like 88 Elmira St., New York Stories, and Hot Rod Guitar-the anthology. Might have to sip a little bourbon in front of the fireplace this weekend and listen to "One For Lenny". Has anyone ever heard any of the posthumous releases Danny's wife has put out? William Clarke is another lost artist whose widow has released cd's on her own.
Utterly fantastic stuff. The live Redneck Jazz Explosion CDs with Gatton and Buddy Emmons (on steel guitar) are also mind bending performances.

"Kindred Spirits" song by Danny and Joey. Great stuff! Danny is tops on my list!!
The overused term, "awesome" is fully justified here. They had a great musical synergy. Danny Gatton is sorely missed.
