DALI Opticon or Dynaudio Evoke help please?!

Hello All,

Let me start off by saying I currently have Dynaudio Evoke 50's, 25C, and a pair of 10's in a 5.4 channel setup. I have 4 SVS subs and these are all driven by a Simaudio Moon Titan HT 200 5 channel amp. I will say I love the Evokes! However I just added a pair of DALI Oberon 7's for my living room as a backup. Up until this point I have never heard DALI's. I got a great deal on an open box pair and since they're Danes like the Dyn's I figured they'd be similar thus I was comfortable buying unheard. Well not only did they blow me away as I was truly not expecting what they can do, I have to admit it's making me think of going for DALI Opticon and selling my Evokes? My wife thinks I'm crazy and I know that I am, but I just can't get this out of my head. The problem (outside of having to list and sell, box up, and ship the Evokes) is I cannot listen to the DALI's as there is no dealer near me. But with what I've heard with the Oberons I'm so intrigued with the idea of the Opticons...So I'm thinking of a pair of the Opticon 8's, Vokal, and a pair of the 2's...

Any of you had the chance to compare the 2 lines or has anyone heard the Opticon line, specifically the 8's? The thing is the Oberon's are very close in many ways to the Evokes (not even a fair comparison as the Evokes are 3x the price), and that's why I'm so intrigued by what the Opticon 8's might be capable of? Like I said this was all innocent enough and had nothing to do with being disappointed in the Evokes. The reason I bought the Oberons is I sent my Titan amp to Simaudio for some "cleaning and calibrating" so I needed a backup system just to get me by. I never ever thought this could lead to this kind of conundrum.

Any help/advice/opinions would be greatly appreciated. And I am not interested in any other speakers. DALI or stay put with Dynaudio?

Thanks All in advance!

You're comparing kind of totally different speaker designs. Dali speakers are very wide dispersion, they even say to listen off axis, dynaudio are narrow dispersion which works good for HT. What I would do is toss the Dali in the HT setup and see what you think I believe the panning might be a bit strange but you may like it. I know it's not going to match your center channel but it could give you an idea of the sound.
Dali has released the Opticon MK2 line, so there may be some opportunities to get good deals on the original Opticon line, either new or nice used units.
I've not heard the Opticon line, but I have heard Oberon 7 and Rubicon 6, and I was impressed with both of them.
Thanks @mtrot and actually I just came across what appears as the original Opticon line (at discounted prices) at a place in Georgia. However they haven't returned my calls or emails?

@djones that is a great idea and thanks for the insight. DALI does go out of their way to say not to toe in their speakers and that's a great point in regard to their HT performance. Good call moving them into the HT system to get a feel...

They do have many similar traits to the Dynaudio's, yet to differ in some ways. It's kinda weird actually. But of course not really a true fair comparison between the Evoke 50's and Oberon 7's, but damn those Danes know how to make a speaker, huh? :)
Did you ever get the OP 8's @kingbr? I'm waiting on a pair to be shipped now, not the new MK2. If you did get them what ate your thoughts so far?

Hi @dadork, actually I decided to keep the Dynaudio's - and I'm truly glad I did. I actually bought the OP 6's for a second 2 channel system. Whilst I thought they were great speakers they didn't blow me away like I was hoping/expecting after hearing the Oberon's. I ended up returning them and once I got my Simaudio Titan back from Simaudio for cleaning and calibrating it brought the magic of the Dyn Evoke's right back. Soon as I reconnected the Sim and the Evoke's I realized that's what was missing. I knew right away the Evoke's weren't going anywhere! Amazing what a difference an amp can make...I never did get to hear the OP 8's, and now I don't need to.

Good luck with the OP 8's, I'd still love to hear them some day but I'm back in nirvana with the Sim and Evokes and staying put man...
