DAC to Preamp/Processor, question please?

Hello, I have a Anthem AVM 70 processor, and Denafrips Pontus 15th DAC.

If I run RCA from Pontus DAC to AVM 70 Preamp, but leave the AVM 70 Room Correction on (this way it integrates my subs etc...), I understand I am using the AVM 70 DAC, so, is the Pontus DAC totally useless and not being used? I was pretty much advised I should maybe upgrade to the Anthem 90, as it has better DAC's, and maybe forget about the Pontus DAC?

But, I'm trying to understand what is really happening to the Pontus DAC signal, when also using the AVM 70 DAC's?

Tom you are using the Dac in the Pontus the RCA’s you're running are from the analog outputs. It does not have a digital output.

no you are not hearing the external dac, the anthem uses rom correction so any analog signal is digitized and fed to the pre/pros built in dacs

this is why if you have room correction you will not get  big improvements by using an external Dac

and we were an anthem dealer for many years the 70 is a great pre/pro and the 90 wasn't a big improvement

Just curious, was wondering if you ever tried to AB your source directly in to your Anthem? You know the old adage the less boxes in the chain the better the sound, you might have landed on this one.
