I just put my modded XDR back into my Livingroom system. In the past I found it was not as good as my 3 other tuners, but close. Then I tried an Audience Au24SE RCA interconnect and the differences closed to almost the same level as the other 3. The interconnect costs more than the XDR so I never tried it until recently.
A new Gustard X26 Pro at $1250 (on sale) would be a like the XDR. Not super bright but a nice big sound without harshness. This DAC shows up on the used market for around $1250, but you can also get it around $900. I sold mine for $950 when I upgraded to a $3K DAC, but the Gustard is very good.
