@mc....... I understand now thanks bro!
DAC Confusion....
In my search for a DAC (currently own a DACMagic100) I seek a DAC that is capable of playing in Native Mode Setting of 44.1
Further, with my laptop output set at 44.1 for example a PS Audio Digital Link iii will not play this native mode. You have to choose between 96 and 192. I cofirmed with phone call and checking manual. The front panel shows a "locked" "96" and "192" light.
Now their NUwave model will play Native Mode Settings..Its front panel shows the "Native" light.
I am fine with an upsampling DAC but want it to be an option as I prefer 44.1 at this time.
Which DAC users are in possesion of a upsampling DAC that will play a Native Mode Setting of 44.1?
While the question may seem ridiculous to some it has been born out of my PS inquiry.
Thank You.

Again, it would seem PS Audio is an outlier. If you look at the frequency graphs for Stereophile DAC reviews, you can see that the output is the original input for most all DACs. Benchmark DAC3 measurements, you can see in “Fig.3” that the sample rate is preserved, even though they upsample internally to 110kHz (and downsample to 110kHz as well). |
@mc.........I am clear now... Native is your source.... Plug a cd player into DAC in 44.1 out 44.1 From PC select your native mode from PC according to DAC drivers limits... Choose you native mode from the PC Native mode from PC lets say is 96 so out pc at 96 to in dac and output is 96 from DAC.. If file was say 44.1 from PC it was upsampled at 96 from dac..and out at 96 from dac according to native PC settings.. |
@mc.....Even more confused now...... 44.1 native out from PC Into Dac...upsamples to 96 lets say.. Outputs to 44.1? Well not the case on the PS Dac if you see above posts.... Question.....why have incoming in at 44.1 then upsample to 96 only to have it output at 44.1? Clear as mud.....lol... The PS Nuwave has Native mode... Meaning in at 44.1 Out at 44.1 96 or 192 upsample is optional. Their audiolink 3 is not. I thought you saw above post.... You even said its too bad that some work that way... If their is something I am still missing enlighten me.... Or better still... Let me ask you... What are your source output settings And what is your Dac output rate at this time? |
I am fine with an upsampling DAC but want it to be an option as I prefer 44.1 at this time. You talking internal upsampling, or an upsampled output? Most DACs internally upsample but output the original sampling rate. The Benchmark DAC3 for instance internally converts all sampling rates to 110kHz, but that doesn’t mean it’s outout is 110kHz. As I stated in the previous thread, this really should not be a concern of yours in the first place. Any decent DAC will not harm the signal by internally converting it to a higher rate. |
