Connecting Kappa 9s

I'm not an audiophile, but appreciate fine gear.  I have 2 Kappa 9s bought new years ago with Citation pre-amp and amp on a dedicated electrical circuit.  Just moved to a new place with no special circuit, and discovered my amp died in the move.  Local salesman sold me a Denon AVR-X3500H home theater receiver and assured me it was enough power for the Kappa 9s.  I'd welcome anyone's thoughts on the validity of that assurance.  After reading user experiences on-line, I question whether I'd be frying the Denon the first time I turn it on.  And do I still use the Citation pre-amp or is it redundant?

Some of the vintage Infinity speakers were referred to as "amp killers" because they had a very low impedance dip, down to 1-2 ohms. I believe the Kappa 9 was one of the "amp killer" infinity speakers. You are not going to want to power it with a modern HT receiver. You need to repair your old amp or buy an amp that is capable of supplying big power into a very low impedance load.

For all things Infinity, you may want to ask the question over at Infinity owners forum on AudioKarma. Here's the link:

Lots of vintage Infinity fans there and they are typically very good about answering these minds of questions.
