I have owned the PL200T about one month. AES/EBU connected to my Weiss 501 DAC. The SMSL has very good build quality and most importantly sounds terrific feeding my DAC. The remote is sturdy enough and easy to use. The top loading feature is well designed and I can’t imagine feeling a need to replace this device. It’s fun to be playing CDs again and reading liner notes
CD Transport: Shanling ET3 vs SMSL PL200T
I have owned the ET3 since new 11 months ago: sadly I discovered several flaws 1) the lid incorporates the locking magnet making it not just heavier, but it can slip out one's hand crashing to the floor, where mine broke. 2) the remote is pathetically fragile, so far 2 have stopped working. WORSE is the total lack of Shanlings customer support. They will NOT deal direct, customer must get/buy replacement from original POP supplier. Meaning the used market is screwed when/if they have similar issues (not a big deal for desktop users: FYI mine is FS). This led me to looking for a replacement. I bought the SMSL PL200T after reading several excellent reviews. I just connected it yesterday, and at first blush it sounds really good, the remote is sturdier and the top/lid is simple. IMO the lid should be smoked to minimize ambient light penetration ala Shanling. Updates as it breaks in. I just ordered a iFi LPS to see if or how much of an improvement it is. Stay tuned
