Sure! A CD player can emit digital noise which is audible. Sometimes it will sound like an odd buzzing, but can manifest as a hiss too. Viewing the output with an oscilloscpe can reveal what is going on. If the noise is profound it might be a malfunction, that is to say it might be repairable, but if it is at a very low level then it is no concern.
CD Player creating white noise through preamp.
Guys - is it common for a CD player (connected through balanced outs) to create some hiss when powered on but not playing or paused? I've tried putting my ear to the speakers with the CD player both on and off and there's definitely more white noise with it on.
