cd/dvd repair ot trash

I am the unfortunate audiophile who keeps experiencing equipment failures.Specifically;A Meridian 800 with HDMI output, cannot read the cd /dvd ,although the unit was repaired by the factory for that precise problem under warranty in the last few month.Yesterday my Esoteric DV-60 failed to read the cds.I purchased that unit new from an authorized dealer, but that was a few years ago. My question is it worth the cost and trouble repairing

Pull the transport out and see if you can locate one on ebay or amazon. They use a PC CD/DVD rom drive in the 800. I don't know if they modify it in any special way, but its definitely worth taking a chance even if it doesn't work.

It is just not cost effective to repair, especially given that the technology and cost of new units is constantly improving. Think about it being an opportunity to advance you enjoyment. Think Oppo, great products, great values."

Just to be clear, are we talking about fixing the Meridian or the Esoteric? The 800, I believe, is about $20,000 and upgradable. Even if its not wanted, it can be fixed and sold. If it sells at a low price, you should still be able to buy several Oppo's.
