I wouldn’t use plastic bags. Moisture has a way of getting in. A plastic bag can actually make things worse. First because it acts as a surface for condensation. Moisture comes in, condensation forms on the plastic, plastic traps it holding it in. This works so good its actually a survival technique for getting water. Matter of fact Mike did this in a recent episode of Better Call Saul. So its officially a thing. Then because out of sight is out of mind you don’t see the damage inside until its too late.
That’s the bad news. The good news is if your garage is nice and dry and you use an ordinary cardboard box and no plastic then yes its fine. My Technics SL-1700 sat in a box in the garage for years and came out looking just as good as the day it went in. This garage by the way is in Redmond, WA, a place not exactly known for its low humidity.
Almost forgot. Obligatory system ref so you can see the Technics https://systems.audiogon.com/systems/8367
