Does anyone know the fuse rating off hand? I see 250v, but cannot discern the amp rating after opening the case. Interested in trying a VH fuse!

rvpiano,

Likely just the one fuse one the power supply board close to the IEC socket. Probably going to be a small size, slow blow fuse. If you pull the fuse the size will be stamped on the cap of the fuse and I’d guess something around 2.5 amp. If you go with Synergistic Research go one value size up. Chris at VH Audio can probably help on fuse size if needed. If you haven’t popped the lid you should to inspect. The IEC socket it what the power cord plugs into if you’re unsure. To be safe, unplug the cord before removing the cover. Once you locate the fuse by the IEC socket, check for others but I’d be surprised if there is more than two and I’m guessing just the one on the power supply. It’s should be very simple to change.
Thanks for the reply.
I have to decide whether or not to take the plunge
is it difficult to change a fuse?
I have changed fuses in my ModWright preamp, Cambridge CDP and most recently on my Teddy Pardo power supply feeding my RME DAC and each component I heard an improvement. I would recommend it and if you buy new most manufacturers and vendors will let you return if you don’t. Overall I found it lowers the noise floor and everything just opens up improving low level listening. Lots of debate from some saying it’s crazy and I agreed until I took the plunge. Right now I’m experimenting with wrapping the stock fuse with plumbers Teflon tape on my PS Audio P5. First impression is it made a difference but I want to spend more time then go back to stock to hear if indeed there was a change and if so for the better.
Adg 101,

Thank you for your post.  I didn’t think it would make a difference on a streamer, but installing a new power cord made a big improvement.
Do you really think a fuse change will also?  I’ve never changed fuses before.
Not sure what your budget is but check out Modwright. I believe Dan is presently working on a Mod for that unit. I modded my LX500 and it is simply incredible.
Power supply is probably fine. On my 851C I heard a nice improvement changing out both fuses which on your CXN you probably have just the one on the power supply board right next to the IEC socket. The Synergistic Blacks were the latest when I made the switch so I’d start there or go with the newer and more pricey Blue Series. Next if you haven’t already tossed the factory power chord, get a nice shielded one. Until recently I was using a Nordost Vishnu which again made a change for the better but just picked up used from a fellow member here a WyWires Silver Juice II Digital and I’m preferring this cable more. The size of the fuse will be marked on the end but go with next size up and likely a slow blow version. VH Audio is a great source and Chris will probably help you on the size. Lastly research some sort of footers and not use the factory feet; even simple Cardas myrtle blocks are better.
